CR 511 Alternate

An interesting alternate route for CR 511. For starters, the southern end of CR 511 Alternate is nowhere near CR 511 in Boonton. CR 511 Alternate ends at NJ 23 in Wayne, overlapped with US 202 like its parent. So unless one drives on US 202 back to Boonton, CR 511 Alternate is not a true alternate route for that purpose. But what makes CR 511 Alternate viable? There is no large elevation change because CR 511 Alternate does not go through Pyramid Mountain like CR 511. So one could use CR 511 Alternate as an alternate route to Parsippany. But still. And even more, CR 511 Alternate begins in Passaic County along US 202, enters Morris County, then re-enters Passaic County to meet its parent. I won't be showing any part of the US 202 overlap here, go to the US 202 page.

CR 511 Alternate in Lincoln Park. The NORTH ALT 511 sign has been faded beyond recognition, so I'll post a specimen of a similar sign:

A little better.

CR 511 Alternate in Riverdale, Passaic County.

Present-day CR 511 Alternate along the Newark-Pompton Turnpike.

CR 511 Alternate and the Newark-Pompton Turnpike have a brief overlap with NJ 23.

The Newark-Pompton Turnpike ends and CR 511 turns east.

Explain why ALT is under 511? These are new signs, and I'm used to seeing on signs NORTH ALT 511, not NORTH 511 ALT. But I guess I'm making a mountain out of a molehill here. I-287 is where CR 511 Alternate meets its parent, CR 511.
