CR 531

 

 

A 13-mile route that passes through four counties.

Middlesex County:

CR 531 passes through Metuchen and serves as its Main Street.

Union County:

CR 531 before downtown Plainfield in Union County. CR 531 signage and county maintenance ends at 9th Street (and there is an incorrect sign at the intersection with 9th Street for END CR 531).

Somerset County:

CR 531 in North Plainfield, Somerset County. The routing of CR 531 is unclear in North Plainfield, with the official routing taking CR 531 onto Chatham Street and Watchung Avenue, but Somerset Street is a parallel effective routing. Either way, both alignments merge together, and both are recognized by the NJDOT SLDs.

Official definition of CR 531 in North Plainfield in green, alternate route / official SB route in orange. The orange route is considered CR 513Z in the SLDs, but it's effectively CR 531.

CR 531 and CR 527 meet at a circle in Watchung.

CR 531 has a massive steep grade between CR 527 and I-78.

Morris County:

CR 531 ends at CR 512 in Morris County. I'm surprised that CR 531 hasn't been extended north along Morris CR 638 northeast to either Chatham, or a combination of 6xx series routes to CR 510 in Mendham. If there is additional logical mileage, why not go for it!
