The Garden State Parkway (NJ 444) is the longest road in New Jersey, at just under 173 miles. It is so long; I needed to create separate pages for different aspects of the Parkway.
Mainline:
Auxiliary:
- Garden State Parkway service plazas
- Great Egg Harbor Bridge walkway
Background:
The Garden State Parkway was originally proposed as the NJ 4 Parkway. It was intended to be a toll-free road connecting Cape May to New York. Only the Middlesex County portion of the original NJ 4 Parkway was built, and it remains one of the toll-free portions of the GSP. To build the rest of the road, the Parkway was built as a toll road, and it remains so today. The NJ 4 Parkway is a probable reason why the secret designation of the Garden State Parkway is NJ 444.
