I-15 in Arizona

I-15 in Arizona is an incredibly scenic highway in the northwestern corner of the state. The highway is isolated from the rest of the Arizona highway system; you have to connect via Utah or Nevada. The southern part of the route follows former US 91, but the most scenic portion of the road was new construction through the previously roadless Virgin River Gorge.

County 91 is the former US 91 in Arizona.

Notice how none of these control cities are large cities. This indicates the isolation of I-15 in Arizona. Beaver Dam is the largest town along I-15 in Arizona.

I-15 enters the walls of the Virgin River Gorge. This was one of the most expensive rural freeways to build in the United States, but it ended up becoming one of the most scenic. From here on, it is clear why no roads were built through the gorge until I-15 was built.
