A rare (for North Carolina) left exit in Greensboro. This is because when the southern half Greensboro Urban Loop was built, I-40 was rerouted onto the southern half of the loop, so that is the intended through route. I-40 was later restored onto its original route through the core of Greensboro, nicknamed "Death Valley" because of how dangerous it was and how confusing it is to follow.
Bypass Greensboro or go through? Your pick.
Death Valley in Greensboro. Note that five routes follow one stretch of pavement here.
I-40 intersects the Loop again. At the time, I-840 was unsigned here, along the overlap with I-785.
