I-885

The result of the long-planned and now-built East End Connector in Durham.

Near the beginning of I-885. Right after the I-40 junction where the route transitions.

Originally, I-885 and NC 147 were concurrent until this interchange for the East End Connector. But to simplify things, NCDOT truncated NC 147 to the East End Connector and redesignated the remainder of NC 147 south of I-40 as NC 885.

The East End Connector, which links the NC 147 freeway to the US 70 freeway. Click the video for a drive through of the connector.

I-885 overlaps with US 70 until the I-885 designation ends at its parent, I-85. Is it any wonder why NCDOT deleted NC 147, so that I-885 can stand on its own for more of its length?

Old exit numbers being removed from US 70.
