IN 912

An expressway bypass of US 12, and a connector to Indiana Harbor. Interestingly, the mileage increases from the route's northern end to its southern end. This is because IN 912 starts as an east-west route before having a 90-degree turn to become a north-south route (the majority of its length). For this road, south corresponds to east and west corresponds to north. I'll consider this a north-south route.

IN 912 starts at US 6 Business.

IN 912 is one of three controlled-access ways to reach Chicago from Northwest Indiana. Another way is to use I-80/94 (Borman Expressway) westbound, as shown here. I-80/94 is the only toll-free way.
And let's talk about the I-65 shield being tacked on in an awkward position on the BGS for the I-80/94 EB exit.

IN 912 has a cloverstack interchange with I-80/94.

Black backgrounds behind the route shields. Also, the th in 5th Avenue is way too small. Here, IN 912 starts an overlap with US 12.

That's a large arrow for a sharp curve on the ramp. I-90 is another way to access Chicago.

US 12 departs from IN 912.

Large, complex ramps for industrial areas, casinos, and ports.

The fun begins here as IN 912 rises above the industrial landscape to cross the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal. And there is immediately a stub bridge.

This stub is a remnant of the old Cline Avenue Bridge, a multilane (3 lanes in each direction, 6 lanes total) and toll-free structure unlike the two-lane toll bridge. The old bridge was closed in 2009 because of structural concerns in the wake of the I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis. The old bridge was fully demolished in 2013, but the two-lane, tolled replacement wasn't completed until 2020 (over a decade since the closure!) thanks to large delays. There are plans to build a parallel bridge if traffic demand requires it.

The new Cline Avenue Bridge is designed to be a sleek, signature gateway to Northwest Indiana and Chicago.

Why is this exit unnumbered? This should be either Exit 1 (if I-90 WB is not an exit) or Exit 2 (if I-90 WB is an exit).

IN 912 ends at I-90. The interchange is directional, where traffic can only enter and exit from the same direction (IN 912 WB to I-90 WB, I-90 EB to IN 912 EB, no opposite direction movements).
