Michigan Avenue, Chicago

Michigan Avenue, named after the Great Lake that Chicago is on, is one of the most important and iconic streets in the city. Before Lake Shore Drive was built, this carried US 41 through Chicago. The northernmost section of Michigan Avenue through Streeterville is the Magnificent Mile, see that page for photos along the Mag Mile.

Michigan Avenue at Grant Park. This is the Michigan Boulevard historic district with numerous early 20th-century skyscrapers. The reason the district is known as Michigan Boulevard is because Michigan Avenue here used to be called Michigan Boulevard before the Great Fire.

The Carbide and Carbon Building is a prime example of an Art Deco skyscraper in Chicago.

On one of the towers of the bridge is a plaque dedicated to the restoration of Chicago after the Great Chicago Fire.
