NJ 43 used to be the designation for US 30. NJ 43 does not exist. But what does exist? NJ 143. A spur of (former) NJ 43.
The southern end of NJ 143.
Why do so many signs sign CR 561 as east-west? I know that's the physical direction, but it doesn't match the signage!
Notice how the inscription indicates CAMDEN COUNTY 1933, meaning that Spring Garden Road was originally built as a Camden County route, possibly part of an extended predecessor of CR 726. Spring Garden Road didn't become a state highway until 1955, but reverted to Camden County maintenance by 1965 as part of an extended CR 726. However, in 1989, NJ 143 was officially confirmed on its alignment on Spring Garden Road.
NJ 143 ends at its "parent", US 30 (former NJ 43). NJ 143 has this bend because US 30 was moved to a high-level overpass of the railroad, and the intersection was moved.
