NJ 179

The old alignment of US 202 in western Hunterdon County. US 202 has since been rerouted onto a partially completed freeway from Lambertville to Somerville (this ultimately should have connected Norristown PA to Somerville NJ). So this road, as well as PA 179, took over for old US 202.

Where NJ 179 starts/ends. The New Hope–Lambertville Bridge.

Some bridge pics.

The first building along NJ 179 is Lambertville Station, a historic rail station turned restaurant.

NJ 179 on Bridge Street in historic Lambertville.

I guess NJDOT is pushing the historic status of Lambertville even more with the brown overhead for Main Street (NJ 29).

NJ 29 NB is a left turn here. NJ 29 SB continues straight on NJ 179 de jure, but the de facto routing of NJ 29 SB takes it along Main Street, its former alignment.

NJ 179 has a wrong-way overlap with NJ 29 and intersects the northern end of NJ 165 (which is wholly concurrent with NJ 29). And again, the brown overhead sign.

Most of NJ 179 goes through pastures in the Amwells.

NJ 179 intersects (and has a short concurrency with) CR 579 in Ringoes.

The final NB reassurance shield. How did NJDOT mess up the spacing and center of 179 by placing the numbers too close to one another and leaving the bottom white space wider than the top?

The first SB NJ 179 reassurance shield is an old one.

NJ 179 ends at US 202 / NJ 31. The road continues as CR 514.
