NJ 75

NJ 75 is a cancelled freeway through Newark. The route was supposed to connect I-78 in the south to I-280 (and NJ 21) in the north. Just like I-280, NJ 75 was supposed to be built below grade. However, thanks to the damage that I-78 and I-280 wrought upon Newark, community opposition galvanized against another freeway encircling the city. This led to NJ 75 being cancelled.

Southern stub (I-78 Exit 56):

Starting NB on what would have been NJ 75. Exit 56 is where NJ 75 starts from I-78.

Explain this: There's a right-hand exit, but the gantry is mounted over the left.

NJ 75 NB is the bottom level of not one, but two three-level stacks.

The exit for Peddie Street, the only exit on NJ 75 NB.

The NJ 75 "mainline" makes a sharp curve to end at Runyon Street.

Runyon Street taking in NJ 75.

Now over to NJ 75 SB.

The WB ramp splits for the local and express lanes.

Check out the southern NJ 75 stub.

Northern stub (I-280 Exit 13):

NJ 75 NB begins again at First Street as a ramp to I-280 WB.

Does this look a little wide for a ramp?

And here's more proof this ramp was supposed to be much more: I-280 merges in from the right, acting as a connector from former NJ 58 to the higher-grade NJ 75.
