The modern Red Arrow Highway is the westernmost portion of the original US 12 routing, when US 12 ran through Kalamazoo, Jackson, and Ann Arbor on a more northern route between New Buffalo and Detroit. That routing has mostly been replaced by I-94, but portions of the original road remain.
