While the functionality of US 22 has been supplanted by I-78 as a through route, US 22 still has important local significance.
US 22 enters New Jersey on the Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge. Imagine trying to upgrade this bridge to become I-78, as was originally planned.

Neither US 173 nor US 122 exist today. US 122 is the old designation of US 202. So NJDOT made a clear sign error: These are NJ 173 and NJ 122. Also, why did NJDOT retain the error on a new sign installation?
