Between Washington Street and Indiana Avenue, West Street carried US 36 and US 421 through Indianapolis. This is together with IN 37 (the entirety of West Street) and IN 67 (north of Kentucky Avenue) already on West Street. US 52 followed the portion of West Street between Washington Street and Indiana Avenue but may have followed West Street between Indiana Avenue and 16th Street if US 52 was removed from Indiana Avenue.
