A large portion of CR 506 follows historic roads. And a large portion of CR 506 is the main street through downtowns. The Newark-Pompton Turnpike spur towards Pine Brook, the mainline of the Newark-Pompton Turnpike east of NJ 23, and the Belleville Turnpike. It also just so happens that CR 506 doesn't extend to Morris County because NJ 159 starts Bloomfield Avenue at US 46, even though NJ 159 EB to CR 506 EB feels like following a mainline.
CR 506 EB (straight) begins at NJ 159 (left). This is the reason why CR 506 does not extend to US 46 in Morris County, NJ 159 / old US 46 gets in the way! CR 506 is the "mainline" when driving because of historical reasons, as this road was a spur of the Newark-Pompton Turnpike that connected to Pine Brook.
CR 506, Bloomfield Avenue, in West Caldwell.
CR 506, Bloomfield Avenue, in downtown Caldwell. CR 527 joins CR 506 after the church.
CR 506/CR 527 at the overlap. And I found where a president was born. CR 527 turns north and leaves CR 506 at the North Caldwell border.
CR 506 in Verona. In Verona, CR 506 intersects the start of NJ 23 and CR 577, where CR 506 assumes the mainline of the Newark-Pompton Turnpike.
CR 506 turns off Bloomfield Avenue (historic Newark-Pompton Turnpike) in Glen Ridge to follow Belleville Avenue (historic Belleville Turnpike), then ends at NJ 7 in Belleville. Bloomfield Avenue (and the Newark-Pompton Turnpike) continues as CR 506 Spur to Newark.

CR 506 intersects CR 509 in Bloomfield.
