CR 539

CR 539 is a major north-south county route in the southern and middle portions of New Jersey, connecting Tuckerton to the Trenton area. This road is an open secret connector between the Jersey Shore and Central / North Jersey.

Ocean County:

Starting just south of the official beginning of CR 539 at the northernmost portion of CR 603.

The southern end of CR 539 at US 9 in Tuckerton.

CR 539 in Warren Grove.

CR 539 junctions NJ 72.

CR 539 in Manchester Township, near its intersections with CR 530 and NJ 70.

CR 539 in Joint Base MDL. CR 539 connects to Lakehurst NAS (top two) and to Fort Dix (bottom two). There is a plan to build an overpass for military vehicles so they do not have to cross CR 539.

Monmouth County:

An old guiderail along CR 539 indicates that the road was built as NJH 37. NJH 37 includes both present-day NJ 37 as well as a western extension to Trenton. Much of western NJH 37 wasn't built, but some portions that were built became CR 539.

CR 539 comes to a roundabout where CR 539 Alternate begins.

What is with the off-center white triangle in the YIELD warning sign?

CR 539 in Allentown. Here, CR 539 intersects CR 524 and before that, CR 526.

CR 539 / CR 524 intersect the Allentown Bypass, CR 526 Spur.

CR 524 departs from CR 539.

Mercer County:

Entering Hightstown. CR 539 intersects CR 571 and has a short overlap with that road. Interestingly, NJDOT considers CR 571 north-south (and NJDOT-posted signs indicate CR 571 as north-south), but the counties sign CR 571 as east-west. I treat CR 571 as an east-west route.

CR 539 / CR 571 in Hightstown. The road also has a short overlap with NJ 33.

Middlesex County:

CR 539 has a short length in Middlesex County.

The junction with US 130 was the northern terminus of CR 539 (as well as the southern-western terminus of CR 685) until 2019. This is a reconfigured traffic circle.

CR 539 NB after US 130. This used to be CR 685 NB/EB, and in a time before the 500-600 series and even modern US 130, NJSHR 2.

The end of the CR 539 designation at CR 535 and the current southern/western terminus of CR 685.
