Indiana Avenue, Indianapolis (former US 52)

Indiana Avenue is one of the four original diagonal streets in Indianapolis, heading in a northwest-southeast direction. The other three are Virginia Avenue, Kentucky Avenue, and Massachusetts Avenue.

At one point, the entirety of Indiana Avenue was US 52. Indiana Avenue east of West Street was also part of US 421.

The Indianapolis Urban League headquarters is located along Indiana Avenue. Indiana Avenue was the historical heart of the Black community in Indianapolis.

Indiana Avenue serves as the northern boundary of the IU - Indianapolis / Purdue - Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) campus.

The Madame CJ Walker building also demonstrates Indiana Avenue's history as the cultural hub of the Black community in Indianapolis.

At West Street, US 421 departed Indiana Avenue for Northwest Street (now MLK Jr. Street) heading northbound. Heading southbound / eastbound, US 421 joined Indiana Avenue here until US 421 was routed onto West Street.
