Before I-65 and I-465 were built, US 52 used the following roads and streets through Indianapolis:
- Lafayette Road
- 16th Street (US 136)
- Washington Street (US 40)
- Southeastern Avenue (US 421)
- English Avenue
- Brookville Road
Additionally, when Indiana Avenue used to reach Illinois and Ohio Streets, US 52 used a block of Ohio Street and Meridian Street (US 31) through Monument Circle to reach Washington Street. US 52 may have also been rerouted to use West Street instead of Indiana Avenue between 16th Street and North Street / Indiana Avenue, but I'm not too sure and that would have resulted in US 136 ending in a concurrency.
