Meridian Street, Mile Square and north (former US 31)

North of South Street, US 31 followed Meridian Street through Indianapolis.

At South Street, US 31 took over Meridian Street and IN 135 ended (before IN 135 was transferred).

Meridian Street passes through the circle that defines Indianapolis as the Circle City. This is the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

Historic US 31 intersects New York Avenue, where IN 367 began.

Meridian Street (old US 31) passes by the largest collection of US war memorials outside of Washington DC. This is the American Legion Mall.

State-standard signage at 46th Street.

The Indiana Governor's Residence is located at 4750 Meridian Street. Just like many other official residences, one can book a tour in advance.

Meridian Street junctions Westfield Boulevard, the route to Broad Ripple. This was the oldest alignment of US 31, and it later became IN 431.

The historic arch bridge as seen from below.

Evidence of former state maintenance: state-standard mileposts.

The bridge might still be state-maintained, and these mileposts are assuming US 31 still continues through Meridian Street.

Meridian Street junctions I-465. US 31 joins Meridian Street here.
