When IN 431 was first designated, it was made to cover old alignments of US 31 in the Indianapolis area. The southern segment of IN 431 was Madison Avenue in Greenwood. The northern segment of IN 431 was Westfield Boulevard from Meridian Street to 116th Street, where Westfield Boulevard became Rangeline Road at the Carmel city limit.
The oldest alignment of IN 431 starts at Meridian Street, former US 31. Westfield Boulevard continues southwest to 52nd Street.
Westfield Boulevard runs parallel to the Indiana Central Canal on its southern/eastern bank.
Westfield Boulevard enters the core of Broad Ripple. Westfield Boulevard (former IN 431) becomes one-way northbound to parallel the Central Canal.
Along the one-way section of Westfield Boulevard.
Westfield Boulevard junctions 86th Street, the former IN 100.
