Virginia Avenue is one of the four original diagonal streets in Indianapolis, heading in a southeast-northwest direction. The other three are Massachusetts Avenue, Kentucky Avenue, and Indiana Avenue. Virginia Avenue is also the only diagonal street to have never been truncated because of later construction. Additionally, Virginia Avenue is the only diagonal street to have never had a route number (state highway, US highway).
