CR 571

CR 571 is a county route that can't seem to know which direction it is. State agencies such as NJDOT and NJTA consider CR 571 a north-south route. However, the counties can't agree on the orientation of CR 571. Ocean and Mercer Counties sign CR 571 as an east-west route, but Monmouth County signs CR 571 as north-south. Thus, the majority of CR 571 is signed as east-west. Also, CR 571 is unusual as the route starts concurrent with another route (CR 549 Spur) and ends concurrent* with another route (CR 526*).

I will treat the route as a north-south route, with legislative north corresponding to signed west.

The official end of CR 526 at CR 571. CR 526 has a signed (but unofficial) concurrency* with CR 571 because CR 526 historically extended to Princeton.

CR 571 uses NJ 64 to cross the rails at Princeton Junction.

UPDATE: The NJ 64 junction was reconstructed as a roundabout. The new sign reaffirms CR 571 as north-south and eliminates CR 526 signage. If this sign was mounted by Mercer County or NJDOT, why is the shield so ugly?

Why are these pentagons so ugly? This is an insult to the beauty of Princeton.

Why are the 571 and 526 signs mismatched with each other? I'll fix that in a few easy steps.
1) Design the 571 sign the same way as the 526 sign. The 526 sign matches MUTCD standards unlike Mercer County's ugly CR sign.
2) After mounting a new 571 shield up to standards, dismount the 526 shield. CR 526 doesn't exist here.

*CR 526 does not exist de jure between NJ 27 in Princeton and Mill Road, but is signed along CR 571.
