IN 25 is disjointed because the section through Lafayette has been deleted.
Southern segment:
The southern segment of IN 25 ends at US 52 / US 231. The route used to continue through Lafayette but was truncated in 2013. IN 25 resumes at I-65.
Northern segment:
Hoosier Heartland Highway:
The Hoosier Heartland Highway starts at this roundabout. IN 25 resumes at I-65. Old IN 25 connects to IN 225, but isn't a state route: why can't INDOT acquire or at least sign IN 225 there?
From Lafayette to Logansport, IN 25 is part of the Hoosier Heartland Highway, a more recently-built multilane expressway to connect Lafayette to Fort Wayne. While clearly not up to Interstate standards because of at-grade intersections, it is a much faster and more efficient route from Lafayette to Fort Wayne. It is also because of this rerouting that IN 25 no longer connects to IN 225.
This bridge is a historic one dating back to 1898, but it was not originally located here in Delphi. This is the Freedom Bridge, which was located in Owen County in the southwestern part of the state. How did this end up here? The bridge in Owen County was replaced, and when the Hoosier Heartland Highway was built, this historic Pennsylvania truss bridge was turned into an overpass for the Monon High Trail because of its long span. Great reuse for this bridge, both to decorate the highway and to serve a purpose.
Bypassing Logansport, which is to the north of this highway. IN 25 actually follows the RAMP, not the mainline. After the ramp, the mainline is unnumbered because the ramps of this split diamond interchange carry the route designations of IN 25, US 24, and US 35. IN 25 exits here to turn north into downtown Logansport and head towards Warsaw. The Hoosier Heartland Highway continues east as US 24.
